First team take runners-up spot in JFC...

Our first team forced a draw with the Fechins in their closing Group match in the JFC on Friday night, meaning the finish as runners-up in the Section.

Under-7s make their mark!..

On Wednesday 21st July, our newly formed U-7 team took part in their first ever all county blitz in Darver. In what is a credit to the club, we were able to field 2 teams which only 9 other clubs in the county could match or better.

The first team consisted of; Cora Roe, Siobhan o Hagan, Sarah o Hagan, Nathan Quinn, Carl Meegan, Ellen Quigley, Kayleigh-Anne mc Shane & Scott Hearty. They had 3 games against Young Irelands, Kilkerley and Glyde Rangers and and all 3 games were close affairs and this was due to our team showing great skills, such as the kick passing of Cora and Ellen and the scoring prowess of Scott and Nathan. Also the o Hagan girls and Kayleigh-Anne showed where they got their talents for defending from. And a special word for the youngest member of the squad, Carl Meegan, who'll will be one to keep an eye on for the future.

The squad for the second team was; Conor Dowdall, Malcolm Ladley, Amanda Ononaku, Leah mc Ardle, Elle Carrie, Kerrie Cairns and Sarah Roe. This group only had 2 games against Glyde Rangers and Kilkerley as the Glen Emmetts went home early. Again this group displayed some super skills with Malcolm and Elle leading the scoring. Amanda and Leah showed up as 2 exceptional goalkeepers while Conor and Kerrie cleared a lot of great balls from the defence, and in an exciting finish to the night Sarah kicked the equalising score with the very last kick of the game.

Well done to all the parents who gave the children great support on the night and they can be proud of what they and the children are doing for the club.
The next regional blitz is fixed for Sunday 8th August and in the meantime training continues on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 in the field.

First team bidding for top-spot..

Our first team will be bidding to clinch top-spot in our section of the JFC, when we play St Fechins in our final Group game in Castlebellingham this Friday night (7.30pm).

The new format is certainly a major overhaul on the system used in recent seasons, whereby our group campaign consisted of 5 rounds. Howver under the new system, we're preparing for the knockout stages after just one game and one win!

Our record against the Fechins doesnt make pleasant reading, and on recent form, they deservedly got into the match as favourites.

Awaiting us in the q-finals will be with the Finbarrs or Glen Emmets.

Ideas sought...

The club are planning one further major curtainraiser before the end of the year, and we're currently seeking ideas from club members...

Anyone with any suggestions is asked to contact John Brady, Pat Toner or Michael Kerley, or indeed, any committee member.

Apologies..

Due to a technical problem at present, we're unable to post any club photographs. The matter relates to a space shortage issue on the website. We hope to have the matter rectified as soon as possible.

Particular apologies to our u-7s team, who played their first match recently. Rest assured, we'll have the team photo displayed, as soon as the problem is sorted out! Thank you for your patience.

Under 16s in League win...

St. Mochtas/Dowdallshill 2-12         Sean O'Mahonys 1-2

St.Mochtas/Dowdallshill had a comprehensive win over an understrength O'Mahonys side deprived of a number of key players. Four points separated the sides at half time, with the amalgamation leading 0-6 to 0-2 with Hill lads Daniel Fu and Darren Rogers among the point scorers.
In the second half the Mochtas/Hill combination pulled away and won comfortably. James McGinn made his first appearance for the under 16's and got a goal and Andrew Kerr also came on and did well, almost breaking the crossbar in the process with a thunderous effort!
Scorers from the Hill were Daniel Fu 0-1, Darren Rogers 0-2, James McGinn 1-0.

This result qualifies the team for a semi final position with two league matches remaining. It is highly likely that a much stronger O'Mahonys will have to be beaten at a later stage if silverware is to be collected.

Winning start in Junior FC...

Our first team avoided an upset in their opening group game in the JFC, when they easily accounted for the John Mitchells in the match in Knockbridge.

The victory means we are now qualified for the q-finals, and it sets-up a group decider against St Fechins next Friday night at the Grove...

Old guns prevail in Racenite curtainraiser!

Under 30's 2-06         Over 30's 1-13

In what could be described as an entertaining encounter, the Old Heads
showed experience counts as they came out on top with a comprehensive 4
point  victory.
The Under 30's dominated possession early on, but some wasteful shooting
meant they couldn't capitalise and slowly the Over 30's came to the fore.
They enjoyed a 4 point win, and even could afford a missed penalty when
player manager Gerry Roe "passed" the ball  into the arms of Under 30's
'keeper James Everard.
In the opposite goal Louis Mulholland made a number of quality stops,
showing he hasn't lost it while at the opposite end of the field, former
stalwart Gerry Mulligan fired an impressive 1-1.

It was great to see so many old faces returning to play a part in the
game...and enjoy a few pints afterwards....

5 changes at top table...

The club AGM on Friday night drew a moderate crowd to St Brigid's Park, where a year of mixed fortunes was reflected upon.

Success for the Ladies teams and the Mens Div 4 Team was commended, while the year's low points were the passing of Enda Hughes and the failure of the Mens first team to make any impact in c'ship or league.

In the election of officers, outgoing chairman Liam O'Hagan allowed his name for-forward for a 4th year, and he was duly returned unopposed. Accepting another term, O'Hagan said this would definitely be his final year in the position. He also appealed for the workload at the club to be spread more evenly, as it was being left to the same half-dozen people to do everything. The fact that the clubhouse was now fully operational, meant more club members would have to step up to the plate, he added. On finance, and although inroads have been made into the club debt, the priority would be to reduce it further in the year ahead, the chairman added.

Meanwhile Sheila Mohan stood-down from her vice-chairperson's role after 2 years, and coming-in to the role is former Secretary Donal Sheridan.

Alvin Mc Evoy was returned unopposed as Secretary for a 2nd term, while Gerry Mc Namee becomes new Assistant Secretary in place of Peter Mc Kevitt. Peter is the club's new Development Officer.

There's no change at Treasurer, where Thomas O'Connor continues for a 2nd year. His new assistant is former Team Captain, Ciaran O'Callaghan.

Colum Corrigan was returned as PRO for a 3rd year, while Peader Toal didnt allow his name go forward for the position of County Board Delegate, and our new Representative is Gerry Roe.

John Kerr continues as Minor Board delegate.

Ladies officer is Una Pearson

And Youth officer once again, is Sandra O'Connor.

The remaining committee members are Sheila Mohan, Pat Toner, John Brady, Gerry Mc Shane, Eoin Mc Evoy, Fra Agnew Snr, Thomas Mc Evoy, Peadar Toal, Owen Mc Gailey and Gary Corrigan.

On team management, a new Junior team manager is expected to be appointed in the coming days. John Brady is the new Junior 2 manager, and will pick his own selectors.

The Ladies selection team will comprise Fred O'Hagan, Thomas O'Connor and Alvin Mc Evoy.

And the management of the Juvenile teams, will be left to the incoming underage committee.

Support was urged for the Club's big Christmas Lotto night on Tues Dec 22nd, the 50th Christmas morning Run to St Oliver's Hospital, and the Annual Flag Day on Sat Jan 16th.
